Sydney Carter (1915-2004) was an English poet, songwriter, and playwright, best known for writing the song "Lord of the Dance." He studied at Balliol College, Oxford and later worked as a teacher and social worker. His poetry and songs often revolved around religious and spiritual themes, drawing on his Quaker faith and his experiences in World War II. Carter's works have been widely performed and recorded, and he is considered an important figure in the British folk music revival of the 1960s and 1970s.
